Dear Student, When I teach animal communication, my students and I always get a good laugh at some point because I become such a broken record when it comes to breathing. We humans tend to breathe fairly shallowly when we aren’t thinking about it, and when we are stressed even more so. Animals pick that up. Even if we aren’t able to hear what they are communicating to us, they are hearing us. And one of the first things they pick up is our energetic state. You aren’t very relaxed if you aren’t breathing fully. Our breath actually communicates a lot to the animal. The first exercise I do with students and animals is simply having them breathe fully and watch the difference in the animal they are working with. Do they notice a change in the animal as they breathe more fully? Practice not breathing fully and then begin breathing full breaths and see if you notice a change. What you often see when you just breathe fully is the animal’s eyes. The eyes tend to soften. I have had animals fall sound asleep simply doing this breathing exercise. They soak it up! The other thing you may notice is the animal may lick their lips or yawn. You may not always hear the communication from the animal yet, but this is a form of communication. It is in the language they understand and these signs you are seeing can help validate that the animal you are trying to communicate with is hearing you. Another important reason to breathe fully is that it is very hard to receive any intuitive communication if you aren’t open fully and breathing helps do that. I like to compare doing full breathing exercises before I begin working with an animal to how I used to practice scales in piano lessons. It primes the hands and warms them up before playing the music. Or it is like stretching your body before exercise. Breathing also serves as “dialing” the number to the animal. It is letting them know you want to connect to them. I always start any intuitive session with a few full breaths to ground myself and to connect to the other being. And if I feel like my connection has dropped off or I’m not getting a clear signal, I go back and breathe more fully to help clear the clutter going on. Breathing is vital not only for life but for a good communication session. It is a pretty easy fix too if you are having trouble connecting and it is actually good for you as well!
