10 ways to unlock deeper meanings before you discard a message as inaccurate. Some people feel that everything that comes through in a reading does for a reason, and is, therefore, accurate in some way. However, it's also true that sometimes the communicator's filter is not clear, the energy is off, or the connection was with an entirely different animal. But often, it's all about the interpretation. And that's where you, the animal's person, come in. With a little thought and introspection, you hold the power to break the code! Animal communicators simply bring you the messages. You, though, are best qualified to interpret those messages, dig deeper, and seek meaningful truths. Often the real messages go far beyond the initial words, basic descriptions, or images, so disregarding something or labeling it inaccurate because it's not familiar to you or because the facts don't match with what you currently think to be true, may be ignoring the gold within.
To help you find those diamonds in the conversations with your animal, run though the checklist below of ways to interpret the information you receive and unlock the deeper clarity waiting for you. 1. Look for MetaphorsA metaphor is a figure of speech or analogy that refers to one thing by mentioning another. In doing so, it can help clarify or identify hidden similarities between two things or ideas. For example, "She's a peach" is meant to refer to how fine or good she is, not that she is an actual piece of fruit. Or visually, the image of someone jumping "over the moon" might mean how excited or happy they are. Are any of the messages from your animal metaphors? Perhaps they are being used to drive home a point or to illuminate a foreign concept through an idea that is more familiar to you. 2. Find the SymbolismAnimals tend to communicate using imagery, making symbols powerful messengers. Some common examples of symbols that are easy to spot in day-to-day living are found coins, the appearance of particular animals at key moments, and number sequences, often attributed to angel messages. If the conversation with your animal includes images or symbols that stand out to you or even seem out of place, that may be an invitation to explore more. It's always a great idea to first search your heart for personal meanings, but if you are stumped, there are many websites that offer interpretations and meanings for symbols, animals, flowers, and other signs. Also, don't limit yourself to the symbols that come though during the communication. Think back to events leading up to the session and pay attention to events afterward, too. 3. Consider MirroringPerhaps the messages or symbolisms aren't about the animal, but about you or other family members. Mirroring can occur when an animal senses your pain or your needs and accepts some of your symptoms or traits on your behalf. Sometimes this is an effort to "take on your suffering" so you don't have to experience it or to show solidarity with you. But it can also happen when an animal wants to show you things you can't seem to see in yourself. For example, a dog who gets very anxious when visitors are over may simply be reflecting what his person feels in that situation. Sometimes how the animal tries to solve the problem can offer clues to the person. In this case, if the dog immediately heads for the yard to ground himself in nature, maybe this is a strategy the person can use as well. A couple of times when connecting to animals, they showed me that they were wearing sunglasses — strong symbolism that they were simply "reflecting" back to someone else. 4. Perhaps it's Pre-"You"Another reason why the information that an animal communicates may not resonate with you is possibly because it actually happened before he or she came into your life. So if an animal says he loves cheeseburgers, when you've never given him one, maybe it was a treat he had before your time — either in this life or others. I once talked with a horse who detailed his life in racing, which he felt was difficult and overwhelming. His people were confused because, though he had been a race horse before coming to them, he hadn't raced in years. However, the lifestyle had such an impact on him, that he was compelled to recount it as if it were happening in present-day. 5. Look From the Animal's ViewpointYou likely know your animal well. But always knowing how they perceive things, how they feel about this situation or that encounter, or even how they read the energy of events is often beyond our capabilities. And that could be why you don't recognize some of what your animal says or communicates in a session. While you are naturally looking at things from your point of view, your animal may have different perceptions or emotions around something. A dog I talked with confided that when with other dogs she was a bit afraid she wouldn't fit in due to her size and body type. The dog's person was surprised, as the dog seemed to love playing with the other dogs and always got along with them and there was never a hint of this insecurity. 6. Unverifiable Information Doesn't Mean It's Not TrueNot all information or conversations can be verified — which means sometimes you just have to go on faith that what you are hearing is accurate (of course, listen to your heart, too!). A prime example is when an animal or communicator covers topics or events that haven't yet happened. When they finally do, perhaps everything will make perfect sense. The tricky part is that it may not be clear that the animal is talking about future events. If you assume the conversation is about past or present situations and insist the information is inaccurate because nothing like that is or has ever happened, the solution may be looking to the future. 7. Predictions May Only Be True in the MomentThe future is a complicated place. Many paths lead to it, making predictions about outcomes a constantly changing business. If you are told the end results about something, remember that those results are at the end of just one of those paths. Each one is lined with variables that have the potential to change the results. So if an animal says one thing about what's to come, remember your actions moving forward may change the outcome — and that might be the reason why their predictions were "wrong." It's also a good idea to check in with yourself before following one of those predictions and basing your life around what you heard. For example, if the message you get is, "You aren't with the right person and need to move to another city to meet your destiny." This could be perfect advice. But does it feel right to you? Is it something you want deep down? Only you can decide. 8. Be Open to Random InformationInformation may come through that simply doesn't make sense or relate to anything else. You could chalk it up to a fuzzy connection or operator error. Or you could keep an open mind as you move forward. Some information takes time — even years — to play out and make sense. Maybe it's part of some other awareness. Maybe it's a snippet of something grabbed out of the future, brought to you now with purpose. 9. Listen For Other MessengersAnother reason why a message might not sound like your animal is that he or she may simply be the messenger for your angels, guides, power animals, relatives who have passed, your higher self, or other energies. While it can certainly be helpful to identify the message source, try focusing on the actual message rather than whether the tone or delivery rings true. 10. Allow for Hidden MessagesSometimes, message meanings are purposely veiled. Maybe the animal's person isn't ready to hear the truth or wishes to believe a different version and so the animal is playing along until the timing is better. I connected with a cat once and got the strong feeling he was struggling with some mental illness. I immediately offered healing energy. His person, however, insisted he was fine — actually better than fine — and that the cat was a healer himself. She went as far as enlisting another communicator to confirm that I had indeed picked up the mental illness correctly, but that it was for another cat that hers was helping to heal. She felt that her cat had arranged to work with me to help him heal his "client." However, on my end, something didn't add up with this story. The person's over-the-top insistence that all was perfect in her world (plus some other psychic awarenesses I received) led me to believe that she couldn't bear the thought of anything being wrong with her cat. Having sensed that the truth would be harmful to her, her cat created a scenario the person could live with, while secretly getting some healing help for himself. ConclusionThinking outside the box can help you find the deeper meanings in the messages you receive. And tuning into what your heart says and feels helps you further discern whether a reading is right on or perhaps a bit off. But while these methods can expand your horizons, remember that the conversations you get could just be simple and straightforward, without any extra or hidden meanings. Which is what most animals prefer anyway!

As you mentioned, there is symbolism used during animal readings, and it is important to figure out what they mean. My puppy, Frankie, had been acting strange lately, and it would be nice to know what is bothering him. Maybe we will have to go to a reading to see if we can figure out what is wrong.
